Hollywood Hillside Home

Project: Hollywood Hillside Home

Location: Beachwood Canyon, Hollywood CA

Scope: 1800 SF Renovation + Remodel

Status of Completion: Final Completion 2010

Role: Project Architect w/XTEN Architecture

This residential renovation and remodel sits on the top of Beachwood Canyon in the Hollywood Hills. The site has majestic views towards Griffith Park Observatory, the Hollywood Sign, and the neighboring Hollywood landscape. The client wished to preserve the existing programmatic layout.

The design concept was to treat the entire building as one volume. By applying a series of new datum lines in plan/section/perspective, we created a more cohesive exterior architectural expression. All non-structural walls dividing public spaces were eliminated thus revealing a light-filled loft-like space with visual access to multiple levels. An exterior deck, the our sole addition, linked the living room and elevated kitchen area. Existing opening were widened & extended to the floor & ceiling , and equipped with aluminum-framed glass sliding doors to maximize views and daylight.
