Role: Design Director w/Brearley Architects + Urbanists
The objectives of this project were to create dynamic outdoor/indoor spaces for spontaneous formal/informal learning, flexible spaces for research, conference, & study, and a variety of public spaces for cross-disciplinary social activity. The Schools of Mechanical Automation & Micro-Structures are connected in a loop diagram such that both disciplines can share information & teach one another. Flexible lab space occupies the first & second level while classrooms, administrative office, conference rooms, & individual research rooms are located on the third, fourth, and fifth floors. Sustainable objectives include vertical sun-shading walls at all facades, passive cooling via interior courtyards, rooftop photovoltaic array, vegetative roofs, rainwater collection, and grey-water re-use.
